The idea for Arise Lamka was born from the realization that many students in the Lamka area of Manipur state, India, were facing challenges in terms of awareness of career opportunities and options, as well as accessing quality education and resources. Despite the government’s efforts to improve education in the area, there were few opportunities for students to receive high quality and contemporary academic support, career guidance, or mentorship.
The founder of Arise Lamka saw a need for an organization that would provide students with the resources, means and support they needed to succeed in their academic and professional careers, and they in turn would one day return to give back to the community. He recognized that by providing students with access to quality education and resources, he could potentially help to empower students and improve their chances of success in an ever-changing world of education. Thus, Arise Lamka was formed as a non-profit organization with the goal of empowering students in the Lamka area. The project aims to help students to overcome the challenges they face and reach their full potential.
Why Lamka?
As per the data from the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), the overall literacy rate in India in 2021 is 74.04%. Tthe literacy rate in Manipur is slightly higher at 79.85%. However, in Churachandpur district, the literacy rate is lower than the state average at 75.5% in 2021. The district has a population of over 3.5 lakh people.
According to official reports as reported by IFP, there are 7, 01,987 educated youth seeking employment in Manipur as of May 2014. A total of 3, 26,548 job seekers are live-registered by the end of March 2022.
As per the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the unemployment rate in Manipur was 6.4% in 2020, which is higher than the national average of 6%. In Churachandpur district, the unemployment rate is at 8.2% in 2020. The district has many young, educated people unable to find work or the awareness nor the means to pursue relevant professional courses after completing their education (Std XII or Graduation).
Mr. Lalhmangaih Hauzel is the passionate and dedicated founder of Arise Lamka, an education project aimed at empowering students in the Lamka area of Manipur state, India. Born and raised in Lamka, he earned his Master of Hospital Administration degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Deemed University), Mumbai in 2011 and is expected to complete his Executive MBA degree from IIT Bombay and Washington University at St. Louis by August 2023.
With over 13+ years of work experience in Multinational Corporations like Syntel and Atos, Lalhmangaih currently holds the role of a Process Excellence Leader at Tata Advanced Systems Limited (Aerospace & Defence), Bangaluru, Karnataka state, India.
He is also the proud recipient of Siamsinpawlpi General Headquarters “New Field Explorer” in Education award in January 2012. With his extensive educational background and experience in the field, Lalhmangaih is well-equipped to lead Arise Lamka and make a positive impact in the education sector in Lamka.
